New Technology Offers More Effective Gum Disease Treatment
At Precision Periodontics & Implant Dentistry, Dr. Daniel Lauer is dedicated to offering the most innovative and proven solutions available. Among our collection of advanced periodontal technology is the new micro-IDent®plus11 by HAIN Lifescience. This state-of-the-art system is utilized to identify the specific type of bacteria that is living in a patient’s periodontal pockets–the area of separation between the tooth and the inflamed gum tissue. This bacteria is one of the main causes of periodontal disease, and by finding the exact type present, Dr. Lauer can find the most effective method of antibiotic therapy.
The micro-IDent®plus11 is a non-invasive diagnostic process that involves taking a bacterial sample and sending it for analysis to determine the best form of treatment. When a patient comes in for their exam, Dr. Lauer will guide the sterile, cone-shaped paper point into the periodontal pocket, which gathers the specimen. Once this has been done, he sends the sample to be analyzed, which allows the bacteria to be cultured and studied. The test results will pinpoint the exact type of bacteria that is present in the particular patient. Based on this information, Dr. Lauer can utilize the most appropriate antibiotic for disease therapy.
Although the micro-IDent®plus11 is a relatively new offering, Dr. Lauer has found it to severely reduce or even eliminate the presence of bacteria, creating a higher treatment success rate and significantly reducing the rate of disease relapse.
